Wishing that I was here ☝🏼 today instead of in my office fighting with insurance companies ALL DAY LONG... One of my patient’s insurance company literally hung up on me!!! Don’t tell me X,Y, Z is required and then refuse to pay once that criteria is met... I mean seriously... what?🤬 Every day that goes by that my patient doesn’t have their lifesaving medications is another dime in their pockets and it makes me SO MAD!!! You all know me by now... I’m not a negative person so I’ve been trying to find a way to turn this into a lesson to help you all... Here’s the reality... insurance companies are paid by businesses and just like any other company, they want to make their clients happy. 😊=💰 These insurance companies know that providers don’t have the time to go to battle for every patient. They know that if they fight us enough, we will have no choice but to give up. 😰We are not their clients; we don’t pay their salaries; and frankly, they don’t care how upset we get or who we’re trying to help. You know who is their client? YOU!! And even more specifically, your employer. The most EFFECTIVE and EFFICIENT way to get a medication covered is to ask your Human Resources department to file a complaint. Trust me... If anything will work, it’s this.’ Good luck and remember... this is YOUR diabetes! Advocating for yourself is one of the most important things you can do as a type 1. Good luck!
